Class XI is the first real choice a student makes: a stream, sometimes a new board and sometimes a new school. Admissions usually move quickly once Class X results are out, so it helps to decide before then.

Choosing a stream

Science with Mathematics (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics): for engineering, architecture, computer science, defence and pure sciences
Science with Biology (Physics, Chemistry, Biology): for medicine, nursing, pharmacy and life sciences
Commerce (Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, often with Mathematics): for CA, finance, management and economics
Humanities (History, Political Science, Geography and others): for law, civil services, journalism, teaching and design

Choose the stream for the subjects your child enjoys and does well in. A child who is unhappy in Science for two years usually does worse than one who chose Commerce or Humanities with interest.

Switching boards after Class X

Students move from ICSE to CBSE and from CBSE to ISC at Class XI. The adjustment is mostly new textbooks and a different exam pattern. Our ICSE or CBSE guide explains the differences.

Documents to keep ready

Class X mark sheet (or the online result printout until the mark sheet arrives)
Transfer certificate and character certificate from the current school
Birth certificate
Aadhaar card of the student
Passport-size photographs

Class XI at Stepping Stone

All four campuses teach Science, Commerce and Humanities in Classes XI and XII: ISC at Surajkund and CBSE at Green City, Maniram and All Girls (girls only). Every student sits a short subject test each week.

In 2026 Stepping Stone had a 100% pass in Class X and Class XII across its campuses, 29 students scored 90% or more, and the toppers scored 97.4% (Class X) and 97.0% (Class XII). The full list of names and percentages is published with the original PDF.

When does Class 11 admission start in Gorakhpur?
